Elise Gold Sewall is a contemporary realistic oil painter. Her interests are painting translucent imagery, reflection, and color.
After studying painting, Elise honed her ability to portray refracted light during her career as a fine jewelry designer in New York City where she spent years painting the brilliance of precious stones and metals in her designs. Designing jewelry informed her painting. Twenty five years later Elise began devoting all of her time to her art.
After years of primarily painting portraits and landscapes she moved her concentration to still lives.
Her work has been shown and been recognized in juried shows nationally and internationally.
"...Light, color and reflection are the key areas I explore in my paintings. Simply composed, unassuming commonplace objects that I take for granted have become fascinating and beautiful. I’m very interested in the subtleties of color that show up in shadows and what’s reflected from one object to another."
Florida Weekly-April 2021
The years of painting brilliance of diamonds, precious stones and metal has made me very develop a keen sense of awareness of how light affects surfaces.
I am interested in unassuming, ordinary objects that add beauty to my life. I'm captivated by the colors and shadow that are reflected one object to another.
As a contemporary realistic painter I've always looked for the line between the world as it exists and my interpretation of it.
